image1Shogenji Temple(正玄寺) is in the location of about ten-minute walk from JR Anan Station, in addition to the convenience of built in the city center, located in the convenient environment near to the bus stop “Fujiguran-mae”.

The name “Shogenji” comes from ancient two temple “Hongenji” and “Shoboji”. They are the branch temple of Kyodaiji Temple(敬台寺) , that is established by Kyodaiin(敬台院) known as a religious wife of the Awa(Tokushima) first Daimyo Yoshishige Hachisuka(蜂須賀至鎮).

In 1645, Kyodaiin transferred Hoshoji Temple(法紹寺) from Edo(Tokyo) to Awa(Tokushima) in Tokushima Awa and she established Hongenji Temple and Shoboji Temple at the same time. After that, Hongenji Temple was transferred to Gifu in 1913, and Shohoji Temple was unfortunately converted.

In consideration of its history, Nichiren Shohu 66th High Priest Nittatsu took two characters “正” , ”玄” from “Hongenji”(本玄寺) and “Shoboji”(正法寺), and named “shogenji”(正玄寺) in 1973.

In 1977, the first Jushoku had established the Shogenji cemetery in Nagaike, Anan about 20 minutes by car.

In November of the same year, the current priest was appointed as the second Jushoku. Since then, the Jushoku has been making efforts to the development of Shogenji Temple until today.

Shogenji Temple is the only Shoshu temple in the southern part of the Tokushima Prefecture. People come to Shogenji temple to chant daimoku from Anan city, Naka, and Kaifu though some of them are far from the temple. Under the strong leadership of Jushoku, towards the achievement of shakubuku and our own happiness, Nichiren Shoshu activities have been expanding and are expanding.
